Integrated Coordinated Sciece (ICS) (Period 4)

Course Description

The major purpose of this course provides students with an introduction to earth science, chemistry, biology, and physics. This complete view gives students an understanding of the concepts and principles of science and provides opportunities to develop problem solving, and technological skills necessary to compete successfully in the 21st century.

• There may be additional topics added based on the schedule.
• As we are working in a “mester” system instead of the traditional semester system, topics will be accelerated and missing one day can by considered equal to missing 2 or more days at another school.

Integrated/Coordinated Science meets the requirement for graduation and fulfills University of C /CSU Subject Area Requirements (as an elective course, not as a laboratory course).

Assignments/Homework/Grading
Each assignment may be assessed on one or more standard using the following rating scale: 4 (Advanced), 3 (Proficient), 2 (Basic), 1 (Below Basic), 0 (Far Below Basic). Report card grades are calculated as an average of scores, using the following scale:

A= 4.0-3.6
B= 3.5-2.7
C= 2.6-1.8
D= 1.7-0.9
F= 0.8-0.0

Homework and/or classwork are assigned several times a week. Homework may consist of reading, writing, research, or project based assignments. In addition to regular homework and classwork, there will be at least 3-4 projects. These projects will be scheduled so that 1 will be completed per half-mester or 2 per mester. Students are required to keep a homework log in their notebook or daily planner. All homework and class assignments must be turned in on the assigned due date. All assignments given in class will be posted on the new school website, under the correct class. (http://www.arletahigh.net)

As the instructor, I reserve the right to give a pop quiz at any time.
I will also be giving a minimum of one (1) quiz a week.
It is the responsibility of you, the STUDENT to find out what work/quizzes have been missed and to either complete the work in a timely manner or schedule a make-up quiz.
