The major purpose of this course provides students with an introduction to earth science, chemistry, biology, and physics. This complete view gives students an understanding of the concepts and principles of science and provides opportunities to develop problem solving, and technological skills necessary to compete successfully in the 21st century.• There may be additional topics added based on the schedule.• As we are working in a “mester” system instead of the traditional semester system, topics will be accelerated and missing one day can by considered equal to missing 2 or more days at another school.Integrated/Coordinated Science meets the requirement for graduation and fulfills University of C /CSU Subject Area Requirements (as an elective course, not as a laboratory course).Course Syllabus

Assignments/Homework/GradingEach assignment may be assessed on one or more standard using the following rating scale: 4 (Advanced), 3 (Proficient), 2 (Basic), 1 (Below Basic), 0 (Far Below Basic). Report card grades are calculated as an average of scores, using the following scale:A= 4.0-3.6B= 3.5-2.7C= 2.6-1.8D= 1.7-0.9F= 0.8-0.0Homework and/or classwork are assigned several times a week. Homework may consist of reading, writing, research, or project based assignments. In addition to regular homework and classwork, there will be at least 3-4 projects. These projects will be scheduled so that 1 will be completed per half-mester or 2 per mester. Students are required to keep a homework log in their notebook or daily planner. All homework and class assignments must be turned in on the assigned due date. All assignments given in class will be posted on the new school website, under the correct class. (http://www.arletahigh.net)As the instructor, I reserve the right to give a pop quiz at any time.I will also be giving a minimum of one (1) quiz a week.It is the responsibility of you, the STUDENT to find out what work/quizzes have been missed and to either complete the work in a timely manner or schedule a make-up quiz.School PoliciesAll school policies regarding student attendance and behavior apply to this class. Students are expected to behave in a manner conducive to learning. Students are required to adhere to the school dress code. Students are expected to bring necessary learning materials and assigned textbooks to class each day. Textbooks must be covered and maintained in the condition in which they were issued. Students are responsible for the cost of lost or damaged textbooks.Required TextbooksIntegrated Coordinated Science for the 21st CenturyRequired Student Materials:Pen, pencil, notebook, folder, colored pencils, ruler, scissors, glue stick, highlighter, graph paper, loose lined paper (loose-leaf paper)How to Help Your Child SuccessHelp your child set a consistent block of time aside each day to work on homework, class assignments, or enrichment activities. Provide a quiet study area in which your child can study. Encourage him or her to form study partnerships or study groups with other students in his or her class. Please feel free to contact the school or instructor should you have any questions or concerns about your child’s educational progress or learning needs.Arleta High School: (818) 686-4100Student Science Laboratory Safety ContractI agree to:- Act responsibly at all times in the laboratory.
