Intro to Art and Painting

In Intro to Art, students are introduced to the Elements of Art through a variety of techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, charcoal, pastel, and other mediums.  The goal I have for my students is to have them explore the materials and gain a firm understanding of how artists use the Elements of Line, Value, Shape, Color, Form, Texture, and  Space to create thoughtful and effective works of art.

Painting students continue to explore the Elements of Art through the medium of painting.  We practice with Watercolor and Tempera Paint before moving on to Acrylic paint.  Painting students learn how to master different techniques so that by the end of the class, they will each be able to produce a Self Portrait that tells a visual story about themselves.

Both of my art classes have a focus on the artist process, from initial inspiration, brainstorming, to refining, and even peer feedback and self reflection.  These components help artist to develop their skills and discover their areas of strength.

At the end of the day, there is no such thing as "Good" or "Bad" art since art is subjective.  What matters is intention (what was the goal of the artist) and effort. By having a growth mindset, every student can be a successful artist and hopefully will surprise themselves with just how creative they can be.
