I have submitted to you a format letter given to me by Mr. Martinez (ART Teacher) that works very well with me on regards to parent involvement. Another tip that works for me is to always begin the meeting by attempting to make the parent at ease. Smile, make eye contact, offer to shake hands, and call the parent by name (Me.___ or Mrs.__________).If there are concerns about specific student, prioritize. Overwhelming the parent will not help the student. Provide specific examples to support your claims. Provide the parent with alternatives or actions to help the student improve. Remember that you are the professional, and the parent looks to you for suggestions and guidance. Conclude the talk positively by summarizing what has been discussed; reviewing the plan of action, if there is one; and thanking the parent for coming.
