A P Statistics (Period 1)
Course Description
The AP Statistics curriculum reflects the following points:
1. Emphasize the elements of statistical thinking including
the need for data , the importance of data production, and measuring and modeling
variablitiy
2. More data and concepts
3. Foster active learning
The curriculum is grouped into four main topics:
1. Exploring data: observing patterns and departures from patterns
2. Planning a study: deciding what and how to measure
3.Anticipating patterns: producing models using probability theory and simulation
4. Statistical inference: confirming models
The study of statistics blends rigor, calculations, and deductive thinking of mathematics, the real-world examples and problems of the social sciences, the decision-making needs of business and medicine, and the laboratory methods and experimental procedures of the natural sciences.
