Welcome!  My name is Ms. Stambolis.

Welcome to my returning Senior Advisory, Class of 2016!  I'm so excited you are all returning for another year relevant studies, rigorous classes, and building relationships here at Arleta High School.

In addition to my 12th grade advisory, I am teaching English 11: American Literature/Contemporary Composition, Honors English and Humanities 9A/B English and Humanities 9A/B.

The literature and composition courses 11th grade is designed to prepare students for advanced high school and college reading and writing. This is half-year, two mester (a mester is 10-week grading period, or half a semester) course.

Honors English/Humanities and English/Humanities 9 are year long courses.  Our year is broken up into several units in which we study specific literary genres.  For example, we will study Expository Composition,  Persuasion, and Literary Analysis as well as Drama and Poetry.

Students receive 5 credits for each successfully completed mester (a mester is a 10-week grading period, or a half a semester).

Students must earn a "C" or better in order to pass the course and receive credits.  For the second year in a row, we are teaching the Common Core State Standards. I have created a link to the standards. You can access it from the drop box in the upper right hand corner of this page. Click on "Links" and go to Common Core.

Students, be sure to explore the links and pages in my website.  I have provided many links and files to support your learning.  So, be a self-directed learner and get started! You may even find the secret, extra credit opportunity links and files.

If  you are new to the class or have lost your syllabus, please select the course page for your class from the drop box in the upper right hand corner of this page.

Let's make this a wonderful year!
