Welcome to the land of MATHKNIGHT

Mr. Berriman has been teaching for more years than his students have been alive.  He is a surviving veteran of the California State Math Wars and  was a trainer of teachers for the current California Mathematics Framework.  Although very old, he did not know Euclid or Plato personally, as rumors have stated.

Nicknamed "The Mathknight" for his work with an Academic Decathlon team at a former school, he teaches Statistics, Algebra, TCMS, Calculus and offers tutoring for SATs on an as needed basis. He has taught all mathematics classes offered at the high school level from Advanced Placement Calculus BC to remedial Math.  Mr. "B" was Nationally Board Certified in Mathematics.

Mr. B spent his "free" time coaching basketball at Northridge Park where he has gone to the finals four of the six seasons he has coached, and has won the championship twice.
Mr B has sponsored "Paint the 818", the Arleta chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, and the Mustang Knights chess club.
It is the mission of Paint the 818 to accelerate the maturation process from tagging to muralist through education and involvement to enhance the beauty of our community and stop the defacing of our neighborhoods. Paint the 818 had eight full time members and a number of auxilary members.  They worked on transforming the electric box on the north end of the football and finished the Mustang on the Beachy side.
Mu Alpha Theta members train for a number of competitions including the Rocket City Math League, the LACC Math Competition in March, and the AMC 12-a qualifying test for the US Math Olympiad team in February.
Mustang Knights hold inter & intra SLC tournaments throughout the year. The club donated five tournament chess boards to Arleta High Library to expand all students access to this most elegant of games.  Currently all members meet as individually arranged in the library for private games at lunch, before and after school.

Mr. Berriman is most proud of the disproportionate number of his advisory students whose portfolio presentations have been rated distinguished, who have achieved valedictorian status, and who have been selected as SMaRT Mustangs of the Year.
